Tyler Hibbard

June 2026

For longtime West Georgia Track Club member Tyler Hibbard, running has always been part of life. A Carrollton native, Tyler has been running regularly with WGTC since 2016, though his connection to the club actually goes back even further through founder Tyler Woodard. The two met through pickup Ultimate Frisbee, and that friendship introduced Tyler to the track club when it was first getting started. Today, Tyler works as a programmer for Tanner Health System and is married to former WGTC Vice President Marian Buzon.

Athletics and running have been a constant throughout Tyler’s life. He played club soccer beginning at just four or five years old and continued through age eleven before returning to the sport in eighth grade for Carrollton High School’s JV soccer team. He also ran cross country for Carrollton Junior High, and played pickup Ultimate Frisbee multiple times each week throughout high school and college.

For Tyler, running is about much more than racing. “It is fun,” he says. Running keeps him active and healthy while allowing him to enjoy many of the other activities he loves.

When it comes to races, Tyler does mostly 5Ks. He has also tackled the Carrollton Half Marathon several times, including once as part of a relay team, and ran the Peachtree Road Race for his first-ever 10K experience. Most recently, he completed the WGTC 10K for the first time this past spring.

When asked about his favorite race, Tyler says it is hard to say but any race where he sets a personal record stands out, especially his first 10K and first half marathon. But one particularly memorable experience was running the Warrior Dash 5K in 2013. “The obstacles were lots of fun,” he recalls, “but it sure was muddy.” One accomplishment that especially stands out to Tyler was finishing his very first half marathon in under two hours, which is impressive considering he had never raced anything longer than a 5K before that event.

Looking ahead, Tyler hopes to continue improving and maybe even branch out into new challenges. He would love to get faster again across all distances, return to trail racing, which he hasn’t done since his junior high cross country days, or perhaps someday train for a full marathon.

When choosing where to run, Tyler enjoys running around Hobbs Farm and through Carrollton’s many runnable neighborhoods. He especially appreciates how walkable and runner-friendly the city is, along with the added bonus of the GreenBelt trail system.

And if consistency is the key to success, Tyler is certainly proving it. At the time of this interview, he is currently on a remarkable 708-day streak of reaching his daily Garmin step-count goal, something he credits in large part to Marian for helping keep him motivated.

When asked why he joined WGTC, Tyler says he joined because it offered a fun and social way to stay active while also providing accountability. “Plus,” he adds, “there are great perks!”

Come run with Tyler and other members of WGTC at our next group run! Check out our Monthly Calendar for details.
